Abstract

Objective: Preeclampsia is characterized with edema, proteinuria and hypertension and develops after the 20th week of pregnancy and seen only in pregnancy. In preeclampsia vasospastic ischemia and hypertension can lead to brain, liver and renal infarction. One of the renal tubular damage indicators is increased excretion of the tubular enzymes. We aimed to compare the tubular damage indicators -alanine aminopeptidase, N-acetyl beta-D-glucosaminidase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltransferase levels in preeclamptic pregnancies with healthy pregnancies.

Materials and Methods: In this study alanine aminopeptidase, N-acetyl beta-D-glucosaminidase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltransferase enzyme activities and protein and creatinin levels were measured in 40 preeclamptic and 40 healthy pregnant women urine samples.

Results: When compared with healthy pregnancies alanine aminopeptidase, N-acetyl beta-D glucosaminidase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltransferase enzyme activities were increased significantly in preeclamptic pregnancies (p< 0.001). There wasn't any correlation between the gestational age and enzyme activities. In preeclamptic women there was a negative correlation between gestational age and alanine aminopeptidase and gamma-glutamyltransferase.

Conclusion: The increase in alanine aminopeptidase, N-acetyl beta-D-glucosaminidase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltransferase enzyme activities reşects tubular damage in preeclamptic pregnants. It will be appropriate to measure these enzymes in routine visits to control the tubular damage in early phase.
